High-Flying Heroes: A Dramatic Rescue Mission in the Sierra Nevada
A climber was rescued from a 700-foot rock face in the Sierra Nevada by a California Highway Patrol helicopter crew based in Paso Robles. The rescue operation took place after the climber fell on Power Dome east of Shaver Lake. The H-70 helicopter from San Luis Obispo County, with a two-person flight crew, responded to the remote area. They were joined by a Fresno County Sheriff’s Office helicopter rescue technician before locating and hoisting the injured climber from the rock face. The climber was then transported to an ambulance for further medical assistance. Power Dome is a popular granite climbing area located at Courtright Reservoir in the Sierra National Forest.
