The missile strike resulted in the deaths of three US service members and injuries to four others.
Reports suggest that Chinese officials have denied any involvement and demanded proof when confronted with the satellite imagery linked to the July 17 attack. It was previously reported that Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) acquired a Chinese spy satellite in 2024 and has been using it to monitor US military sites in the Middle East. The agreement allowed the IRGC access to ground stations operated by a Beijing-based satellite control and data services provider.
President Trump and top administration officials have downplayed the impact of possible foreign assistance on the Iran war. Trump stated that he believes foreign assistance has had minimal impact on Iran's capabilities, despite reports of Russia and China aiding Tehran. Secretary of State Marco Rubio also mentioned that any assistance provided to Iran does not increase their ability to target Americans.
The Wall Street Journal's report on Chinese entities providing satellite images to Iran comes just before Chinese leader Xi Jinping's scheduled meeting with Trump at the White House. The White House has not responded to requests for comment on the matter. The involvement of Chinese entities in providing satellite imagery to Iran raises concerns about foreign assistance in conflicts involving the US military.
