Texas Senate candidate James Talarico recently clarified his stance on biological sexes, admitting that he had previously stated there were six sexes but now acknowledges there are only two. Talarico made this correction during an interview with Fox News correspondent Brooke Taylor, where he explained that he misspoke and meant to refer to genetic abnormalities in a small percentage of people. He criticized Republican politicians for focusing on this issue instead of addressing more pressing matters like rising diesel prices.
Talarico's initial claim of there being "six really common biological sexes" was reported in 2021, where he argued that sex is a spectrum and can be ambiguous. When asked about potential voter skepticism regarding his change in stance, Talarico urged people to look at his legislative history and compared himself favorably to his opponent, Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, whom he accused of unethical behavior.
The interview with Fox News took place during the GOP midterm convention in Dallas, where President Donald Trump, who has endorsed Paxton, was scheduled to speak. Trump's arrival was delayed due to an incident with Air Force One. Trump has expressed concern about Texas turning blue, warning that it could lead to dire consequences for the Republican Party.
In addition to revising his views on biological sexes, Talarico also addressed his previous statement that "God is non-binary," clarifying that he was being provocative and emphasizing that human categories cannot define God. Despite these clarifications, Talarico's focus remains on his legislative record and contrasting it with his opponent's actions.
