Challenging the Cancellation: Anyma's Fight for Artistic Integrity in Turkey
The organizer of a canceled Anyma concert in Turkey is challenging the decision made by local authorities. Anyma announced the cancellation of the show, which was supposed to happen on September 12 at Istanbul’s Ataköy Marina Arena, due to altered visuals from a previous performance. The visuals were manipulated with AI to create a false narrative that misrepresented the show. Religious groups accused the show of being satanic, leading to the revocation of the show permits by the Turkish Ministry of Culture. Anyma and his team were not given the chance to discuss the decision with the authorities.
Anyma clarified that none of his visuals are AI-generated and expressed disappointment that his work was altered to fit a different narrative. The artist emphasized that his art was turned into social media and political propaganda, leading to the cancellation of the show without any meaningful dialogue or warning. The Turkish promoter has submitted a second permit application, including Anyma’s statement, in hopes of reconsidering the decision and allowing the event to proceed as planned.
Despite the efforts to reinstate the permit, security risks surrounding the Anyma show in Turkey remain high, given the government's history of shutting down musical performances for various reasons. The canceled show was expected to draw around 12,000 international attendees, with potential economic benefits in marketing, media, and tourism. Anyma's ÆDEN tour is set to continue with upcoming stops in Milan, Madrid, Sydney, Athens, Mumbai, Abu Dhabi, Paris, and Santiago De Chile until the end of 2026.
