Florida Attorney General Pursues Death Penalty for Tractor-Trailer Child Abuse Case
The Florida Attorney General has announced that his office will pursue the death penalty for two adults accused of confining and sexually abusing four children in the cab of a tractor-trailer for several years. The accused individuals, Keisha Monique Epps and Tamra Marshon Stewart, face charges of sexual battery, molestation, and neglect involving two girls and two boys, aged between 5 and 9 years old.
Epps and Stewart, who were living in the cab with the children, subjected them to horrific abuse while Epps worked as a truck driver on a route between Miami and Atlanta. The children were reportedly trapped in a rolling prison and suffered abuse at the hands of the adults who were supposed to protect them.
The case, described as one of the most horrific by the Attorney General, involved the children being confined in the truck cab without basic necessities like showers, restroom breaks, or outdoor exercise. The children were forced to use cups and paper bags for bathroom needs and were deprived of medical and dental care, leading to severe physical infirmities.
The children were also denied access to education for approximately five years and were subjected to poor living conditions, inadequate nutrition, and untreated injuries. The abuse inflicted on the children by Stewart and Epps resulted in significant physical and emotional trauma, including burns and permanent scars.
Stewart faces multiple charges related to sexual battery, molestation, child neglect, and battery, while Epps is charged with sexual battery, molestation, child neglect, and failure to report child abuse. Both individuals were arrested in August and are currently held in the Duval County Jail, with legal representation provided by the Public Defender's Office and the Office of Criminal Conflict and Civil Regional Counsel in Florida.
The Attorney General's office is committed to seeking justice for the victims and holding the accused accountable for their heinous actions. The children's harrowing ordeal highlights the importance of protecting vulnerable individuals and ensuring that perpetrators of such crimes face the full extent of the law.
