Surveillance footage captured the suspect taking belongings from a white Audi before presenting a valet with a ticket for a gray 2026 BMW X5 at the Hyatt Regency Savannah. The man claimed to have multiple cars parked at the hotel and drove off with the BMW around 12:30 a.m. on August 14, according to a police report.

The valet team at the hotel stated that each ticket they issued was linked to a specific vehicle in the lot. The stolen BMW had been provided as a loaner vehicle to a guest staying at the hotel. The dealership was able to track the BMW to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, and requested local police to flag the vehicle as stolen in state and national databases. The current status of the vehicle following the theft in August remains unclear.

Further investigations revealed that the same suspect was involved in another alleged valet theft in Savannah about two weeks prior. A woman had left her black 2019 Toyota C-HR with a valet service at a Fairfield Inn, only to find it missing the next morning. The suspect used a retrieval code to take the vehicle, similar to the method used in the BMW theft.

The suspect, described as a Black man between 20 and 30 years old, was captured on surveillance video during both incidents. The police in Savannah released images of the suspect in the hopes of identifying and apprehending him.
