Remembering Robin Morgan: A Feminist Icon and Trailblazer
Robin Morgan, a prominent figure in the feminist movement and co-founder of the Women’s Media Center, passed away at the age of 85, just days after the death of her colleague Gloria Steinem. The cause of her death was not disclosed, but her son confirmed that she passed away peacefully in her sleep. Morgan had been living with Parkinson’s Disease for over a decade.
Gloria Steinem paid tribute to Morgan, describing her as an artist, poet, and activist who played a crucial role in the feminist revolution. Morgan's work, including the anthology series Sisterhood is Powerful, had a profound impact on the women's movement and inspired many, including Jane Fonda, who credited Morgan with influencing her feminist education.
As the editor-in-chief of Ms. Magazine in the 1980s and 1990s, Morgan was a trailblazer in the field of journalism. In recent years, she hosted the award-winning podcast Women’s Media Center Live with Robin Morgan, which reached its 500th episode. Alongside Fonda and Steinem, Morgan co-founded the Women’s Media Center with a mission to empower women in media and society.
The Women’s Media Center continues to produce original journalism by and about women, advocating for gender equality and fighting against sexism and racism in the media. Morgan's legacy as a leader in the women's movement and her contributions to journalism and literature will be remembered and carried forward by the WMC.
