Beyoncé Honors Selena Quintanilla in B'Day Anniversary Edition with 'Irreemplazable' Mashup
Beyoncé continues to defy genre boundaries with the 20th-anniversary release of her album B'Day. The expanded edition includes a bonus track titled “Irreemplazable,” which combines Beyoncé's hit “Irreplaceable” with Selena Quintanilla's iconic song “Como la Flor.” Beyoncé, who admired Selena, credits the late singer for inspiring her Spanish EP released in 2007. The mashup was approved by Quintanilla's estate, a rare occurrence since Selena's passing in 1995.
In a video shared on Selena's official Instagram, Beyoncé recalls meeting the singer at a Houston mall before Destiny's Child rose to fame. The release of “Irreemplazable” coincides with rumors of a lawsuit within Selena's family, but A.B. Quintanilla III, Selena's brother, praised the collaboration between Beyoncé and Selena. Chris Perez, Selena's widower, also expressed his admiration for the mashup, despite some fans' negative reactions.
The B'Day anniversary edition is now available for streaming on Spotify and Apple Music, featuring not only the “Como la Flor” tribute but also a new version of “Get Me Bodied” called “Cuerpo Tumbao,” with vocals from Maluma and a sample from Celia Cruz's song "La Negra Tiene Tumbao." Beyoncé's musical exploration and homage to Selena showcase her continued innovation and respect for music icons.
