Artificial intelligence programs may not be the best guides for mountain climbing adventures. A group of three inexperienced climbers from Roseville successfully reached the summit of Mount Shasta but faced challenges during their descent. Stranded in the dark and off their planned path in Mud Creek Canyon, they relied on a cell phone for directions, which eventually died. One member of the group injured his knee, further complicating their situation. Fortunately, climbing rangers and Siskiyou County Search and Rescue came to their aid. The climbers admitted that they had used Google Gemni AI to plan their route and pack their gear, but the AI's advice proved to be unreliable, leading to their misadventure.
