Xylitol and Cardiovascular Health: New Research Reveals Surprising Risks

Xylitol, an artificial sweetener, has been linked to an increased risk of major cardiovascular events, according to new research. The study analyzed data from over 17,000 individuals over six and 30-year periods. High blood levels of xylitol were associated with a 57% higher risk of adverse cardiovascular events in the short term and an 18% higher risk in the long term. These findings suggest that the cardiovascular safety of xylitol needs further investigation, especially as its use in products continues to rise. The results of the study will be presented at the European Society of Cardiology Congress 2026.
