Taylor Swift Law: Brazil's New Regulations for Concerts and Event Attendees
Brazil has implemented new regulations for concerts, known as the "Taylor Swift Law," to combat digital ticket scalping and ensure access to free drinking water at large events. The regulations were prompted by controversies surrounding Taylor Swift's Eras Tour in Brazil in 2023, where fans faced difficulties with ticket sales and access to drinking water. Brazilian music fans, including the Taylor Swift Brasil fan organization, welcomed the new rules as a significant step towards fairer fan experiences. The regulations aim to prevent mass purchases by bots, scripts, and other automated systems, as well as ensure transparency in ticket pricing and ownership transfer. The measures also require organizers of large events to provide free drinking water to attendees through water fountains or individual containers.
The Taylor Swift Law, as it became known in Brazil, was introduced following reports of scalpers reselling tickets for Swift's concerts at exorbitant prices. The legislation proposed prison sentences and fines for ticket resellers who sold tickets above their original price.
