Gray, from Stillwater, Minnesota, expressed her love for the ride, while 7-year-old Mishek rode it twice in a row, delighting in the twists and turns. The ride's unique design, created by inventor Herbert Sellner in 1926, has stood the test of time, with only about 1,000 cars ever sold.
The Tilt-A-Whirl's enduring popularity can be attributed to its innovative design and mechanics. Powered by seven individual motors, the ride relies on gravity to spin the cars around its dips. Ride operator Thomas Lauthier, who has been operating the Tilt-A-Whirl at the Minnesota State Fair for 12 years, noted that Midwesterners have a special fondness for the ride. Many fair attendees, like Mike Pream-Anderson, have made riding the Tilt-A-Whirl a family tradition, passing down the joy of the ride through generations.
