Arson Attack on Jewish Community Ambulances: Defendants Admit Guilt in London Incident
Four individuals have admitted to setting fire to four Jewish community ambulances in an arson attack that caused significant damage. Hamza Iqbal, Rehan Khan, Judex Atshatshi, and Saif Ali pleaded guilty to charges related to destroying or damaging property in a reckless manner. The incident took place in Golders Green, north London, resulting in the destruction of fully stocked ambulances and damage to nearby flats and a synagogue. The defendants were remanded in custody, and sentencing is scheduled for the spring of 2027.
The defendants were accused of setting fire to the ambulances, causing gas canisters inside to explode. The resulting blaze led to extensive damage to the ambulances, nearby properties, and electrical charging stations. The ambulances, belonging to the Hatzola charity, were valued at over £5,000 each. Prosecutors believe the attack was targeted against the Jewish community, and the defendants were either intending to damage the property or were reckless about the consequences.
Saif Ali, one of the defendants, was alleged to have been in contact with someone to purchase a blue Toyota Avensis, which was used in the attack. He had researched online about ambulance costs and was involved in sourcing the vehicle. Ali threw his mobile phone out of the window upon his arrest, indicating attempts to conceal evidence. A fifth defendant, Subhan Ahmed, pleaded not guilty to assisting an offender by helping dispose of the car used in the attack. Ahmed's trial is set for January 27 next year at the Old Bailey.
