Two individuals who admitted to orchestrating fake car accidents in Queens for insurance money have been sentenced to prison. The incident captured in the viral video occurred on the Belt Parkway in Rosedale, where a driver narrowly avoided a collision with a Honda Civic driven by one of the perpetrators. The driver then intentionally backed into her car, while passengers in the Civic pretended to be injured. The mastermind behind these staged crashes, along with his partner, orchestrated similar incidents on different occasions, targeting unsuspecting victims on the road.
Prosecutors revealed that the two individuals had a network of accomplices, including passengers feigning injuries, doctors, and lawyers who facilitated the fraudulent claims. This ecosystem of individuals profited from the staged accidents, contributing to the rising number of suspicious insurance reports in New York. Governor Hochul emphasized the financial burden placed on families due to such criminal activities and the resulting increase in insurance rates.
