Man Arrested for Harassment and Threats Near Philadelphia's City Hall
A man accused of harassing and threatening people while wearing a mask near Philadelphia's City Hall has been apprehended by the U.S. Marshall's Service. Zymire Hughes, 22, was arrested in Las Vegas and is currently being held at the Clark County Detention Center awaiting extradition to Pennsylvania. The incidents occurred in Center City during the early morning hours of August 12, where Hughes allegedly terrorized multiple individuals.
Philadelphia Police Captain Jason Smith stated that Hughes was captured on surveillance footage leaving his apartment and boarding a bus to City Hall. He then proceeded to approach and intimidate several individuals in the area while wearing a "Chucky doll Halloween-style facemask." Hughes attempted to scare or antagonize around 15 people by running up to them with a cellphone in hand, possibly filming his actions.
After being refused service at a Dunkin' store for wearing the mask, Hughes continued his behavior by chasing after individuals on the streets. He confronted a man and a woman separately, with the woman sustaining injuries while trying to escape from him. Despite being confronted by SEPTA police officers, Hughes managed to evade them and return to his apartment on the bus.
The arrest of Zymire Hughes brings relief to the community and ensures that the alleged harassment and threats he inflicted on individuals near City Hall will not continue. The authorities have taken swift action to apprehend him and ensure that he faces the consequences of his actions.
