Janet Jackson Biopic: A Potential Project in the Works

Janet Jackson's nephew, Jaafar Jackson, hinted that the iconic singer might be considering creating a biopic about her own life. He mentioned that Janet opted not to be portrayed in the film "Michael," where Jaafar played her late brother, Michael Jackson. Jaafar suggested that Janet has thoughts about making her own film, which could complicate her portrayal in "Michael."

While Janet has not officially announced a biopic project, her decision to not participate in "Michael" was confirmed by her sister La Toya Jackson. La Toya mentioned that Janet was asked to be part of the film but declined, and her wishes should be respected. Director Antoine Fuqua also noted that there seemed to be no tension between Janet and the production, as she remained supportive of Jaafar despite not being involved in the movie.

The film "Michael," released on April 24, traces Michael Jackson's journey from his Jackson 5 days to the peak of his solo career in the late 1980s. It became the first biopic to surpass $1 billion worldwide, leading to the development of a sequel. Jaafar hinted that the sequel might delve deeper into Michael's perspective on the allegations and controversies surrounding his later years.

Janet has previously taken a hands-on approach to documenting her own history through the four-part documentary "Janet Jackson." The documentary, which aired on Lifetime and A&E in 2022, allowed Janet to share her childhood, career, relationships, and complex relationship with Michael in her own words. While Jaafar publicly mentioned the idea of a Janet Jackson biopic, no formal announcement regarding the production has been made yet.

If the Janet Jackson biopic comes to fruition, it would provide the pop icon with another platform to shape the narrative of her extensive career and personal life on the big screen.
