Operation Statewide Shield: Rescuing 163 Children Across Five Continents
A recent multi-agency operation in Florida led to the successful recovery of 163 children, ranging from 2 months to 17 years old, across five continents. The operation, known as Operation Statewide Shield, involved collaboration between Florida law enforcement, federal agencies, and international partners to track and rescue missing children. Some of the children were victims of abuse, neglect, abandonment, or trafficking.
Attorney General James Uthmeier emphasized the importance of protecting vulnerable children who have been victimized by predators. The operation marked Florida's first statewide child-recovery initiative and the largest operation of its kind in the state's history. The rescued children are now safe and receiving the necessary care and support.
The children were found in various locations, including Florida, Alabama, California, Ohio, New York, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, Tennessee, and several countries around the world. Three men have been arrested in connection with the operation, with more arrests expected as investigations continue.
Local law enforcement agencies played a crucial role in transporting the rescued children to designated hubs where they received assistance from social services workers, medical professionals, victim advocates, and other child-centered agencies. Some children were reunited with their families, while others were placed in foster care.
The successful recoveries allowed the cases of the rescued children to be closed with the Missing and Endangered Persons Information Clearinghouse. The operation was guided by the Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) and involved collaboration with various state and federal agencies, as well as nonprofit organizations dedicated to child welfare and human trafficking prevention.
The operation's success highlights the importance of coordinated efforts to combat child exploitation and protect vulnerable children from harm.
