Manhunt for Suspects in Fatal Shooting of Tucson Police Recruit: Pima County Sheriff's Department Seeks Public's Help
The Pima County Sheriff's Department is actively searching for three individuals linked to a fatal shooting that resulted in the death of a Tucson police recruit and left his corrections officer fiancee injured. One of the suspects, Alex James Barnett, 33, has an arrest warrant issued against him, while the identities of the other two men remain undisclosed at this time.
Surveillance footage released shows two men dressed in black at different locations, one at a gas station on West Valencia Road and the other in a parking lot near South Palo Verda Road and East 33rd Street. The suspect vehicle, a gray Acura MDX SUV, was found abandoned and recovered by authorities.
The unidentified man with tattoos on his arms and legs, short dark hair, and a beard was seen dropping off the Acura. The victim, Carlos Ramirez, 23, was a police academy graduate scheduled for August 27 and previously worked as a corrections officer for the sheriff's department. His fiancee, also 23, is in stable condition at a hospital.
The Tucson Police Department expressed deep sorrow over Ramirez's death and extended condolences to his family, fiancee, and colleagues. Sheriff Chris Nanos mentioned that the suspects were dressed in all black with ski masks during the shooting at Ramirez's residence on South Enchanted Spring Drive.
