Indonesian Authorities Intercept Tanzanian-Flagged Vessel Carrying Drugs and Illegal Cigarettes in Riau Province
A Tanzanian-flagged vessel was intercepted by Indonesian authorities in Riau province after receiving intelligence that it may be carrying narcotics from Malaysia. The vessel, named MV Rain Maker, was found to be carrying 2.6 tonnes of methamphetamine hidden in water barrels and a tank. Additionally, over 1.5 million illegal cigarettes were discovered on board. Ten crew members, all from Myanmar, were arrested in connection with the drug bust.
This recent raid marks the second interception of a Tanzanian-flagged vessel in the region within two weeks. Indonesian authorities have been vigilant in cracking down on drug trafficking activities in the area. In a joint operation with customs officials, the National Narcotics Agency successfully seized a significant amount of methamphetamine and illegal cigarettes, highlighting the ongoing efforts to combat drug smuggling in Indonesia.
