Rep. Byron Donalds Secures Victory in Florida Republican Gubernatorial Primary

Rep. Byron Donalds emerged victorious in the Florida Republican gubernatorial primary, securing 49% of the vote and outperforming his competitors. With the support of President Trump, Donalds led the race, leaving Lt. Gov. Jay Collins, James Fishback, and Paul Renner far behind.

Despite not receiving an endorsement from Gov. Ron DeSantis, Donalds maintained a significant lead in the polls throughout the campaign. Fishback, known for his controversial statements and attacks on Donalds, failed to gain substantial traction in the race.

Donalds, who raised over $100 million for his campaign, will now face Democratic nominee David Jolly in the upcoming election. If successful, Donalds will make history as Florida's first black governor and continue the state's Republican leadership.

The last Democrat to hold the governorship in Florida was Buddy MacKay, who served until 1999. Jolly, a former Republican who later joined the Forward Party and eventually switched to the Democratic Party, will challenge Donalds in the race for governor.
