Andy Burnham was in communication with an individual posing as Susie Wiles, the chief of staff for Donald Trump. The Prime Minister exchanged messages with the imposter before any concerns were raised about the situation. Fortunately, no significant messages were shared, and the suspicious activity was promptly reported to the appropriate authorities. The British embassy in Washington even raised the issue with the White House after the incident was brought to light.
A UK Government spokesperson declined to comment on national security matters, following the revelation of the exchange. Last year, The Wall Street Journal reported that the FBI had initiated an investigation into attempts to access Susie Wiles' phone by an unknown person who had contacted prominent Republicans and business leaders while pretending to be her. The timeline of the messages between Andy Burnham and the impersonator, as well as the content of their discussions, remains unclear.
