College Cocaine Trafficking Ring Uncovered: Penn State Fraternities Implicated
Pennsylvania's attorney general has revealed that a group of Penn State students, along with one of their fathers, have been charged in connection with a cocaine trafficking operation linked to two college fraternities in State College. The students, who were members and pledges of Delta Upsilon and Sigma Chi fraternities, were involved in packaging and distributing cocaine to students and locals in the area. The pledges were reportedly required to handle the cocaine as part of their initiation into the fraternities. The top dealers in the operation were identified as Thomas Robinson from Delta Upsilon and Agostino Abbatiello from Sigma Chi, both of whom were students until 2024. Robinson's father was also charged for allegedly withholding information from the authorities.
A total of 12 individuals were charged on Monday in connection with the drug trafficking operation, which was known as "Operation Drugs Unlimited" and took place between 2023 and 2024. The cocaine was allegedly transported from Philadelphia and New York to State College, where it was distributed by five dealers and eight others who were charged with various drug-related offenses. The fraternity brothers were accused of selling the cocaine at parties, social events, and to their acquaintances.
Attorney General Dave Sunday emphasized the seriousness of the criminal activities, stating that there was nothing juvenile about the conduct of those involved. Robinson, who had previously faced drug-related charges in 2024, is currently in custody, while a warrant has been issued for the arrest of Abbatiello. Sunday described Abbatiello as the "largest dealer of coke for Penn State students" on campus. The attorney general also issued a cautionary message to college students as they embark on their new independent lives away from home.
The individuals implicated in the drug trafficking operation are no longer enrolled as students, according to Sunday. The attorney general did not provide any information regarding potential penalties for the fraternities involved, Sigma Chi and Delta Upsilon, which are located at 400 East Prospect Avenue and 229 Locust Lane, respectively. The investigation and charges serve as a reminder of the consequences of engaging in illegal activities, especially on college campuses.
