Florida Man Charged with First-Degree Murder for Allegedly Dismembering Stepfather
A man in Florida, Jose Proano, has been charged with first-degree murder for allegedly stalking, killing, and dismembering his 71-year-old stepfather. The discovery of human remains in three suitcases near the stepfather's home led to the investigation.
The family of the victim reported him missing after finding his belongings at home and signs of blood outside. Concerns were raised when the stepson of the victim claimed that Proano had confessed to the murder.
Security camera footage showed a man matching Proano's description carrying suitcases and what appeared to be a human arm. Investigators connected Proano to the area at the time of the incident through phone records.
Proano admitted to having a strained relationship with his stepfather and mentioned his schizophrenia, which caused him to worry about his family members. He had made calls to 911 expressing concerns about his mother's safety.
The investigation led to the discovery of the victim's dismembered body parts in the suitcases. Proano denied his involvement but was linked to the crime scene through evidence and injuries on his body.
Proano had a history of criminal activities and was on probation until 2027. His recent charges violated the terms of his probation, leading to his arrest. He is currently held without bond in Orange County.
