Explosion at Munitions Factory near Rome: Emergency Responders on Scene

A munitions factory near Colleferro, south-east of Rome, was hit by a significant explosion, with reports indicating that the blast was audible from several kilometers away. Emergency responders, including police and firefighters, were already on the scene dealing with a fire when the explosion occurred. The explosion took place at the former Simmel Difesa plant, now under the management of KNDS Ammo Italy, a subsidiary of the Franco-German defense company KNDS. The manufacturer specializes in producing medium- and large-caliber munitions for land and naval defense, as well as solid propellants for aerospace launch vehicles. The company is listed as a supplier for European Defence Agency 155-mm ammunition framework contracts signed in 2023.
