Vasquez, a Mexican citizen, was accused of abusing a 15-year-old girl while renting a room to her and her mother. ICE has issued a detainer to prevent his release and facilitate his deportation.
Vasquez allegedly threatened the victims and offered money to the teenager to keep quiet about the abuse. He faces multiple charges, including rape, sodomy, human trafficking, promoting human trafficking with a minor, and sexual abuse. ICE lodged a detainer with the Louisville Metro Department of Corrections immediately after his arrest.
Vasquez has a history of a DUI conviction and had previously entered the U.S. illegally in 2013 through Texas. Despite being deported, he illegally reentered the country at some point. Louisville, where the arrest took place, does not operate as a sanctuary jurisdiction and complies with federal laws regarding immigration detainers.
The Department of Homeland Security spokesperson emphasized the importance of not releasing Vasquez from custody and handing him over to ICE for removal from the country. The case highlights the ongoing efforts to address illegal immigration and ensure that individuals charged with serious crimes are held accountable and processed for deportation.
