Rescue Operation: 60 Cats Saved from Abandoned Sailboat off Washington Coast
An abandoned sailboat off the coast of Washington became an unexpected shelter for 60 cats and kittens, many of whom were frightened and malnourished. The Tacoma Police Department's Marine Services Unit responded to reports of the sailboat on August 6 and found over 30 cats living in unsafe conditions. With the help of Animal Control and the Forensics Unit, the officers began a six-day rescue operation to safely remove the animals.
The initial rescue effort, which started with more than 30 cats, eventually grew to 60 cats and kittens.
