The Big Bear bald eagle known as Jackie, who captured the hearts of people worldwide, sadly passed away after more than three weeks of intensive medical care at the Ojai Raptor Center. Despite the efforts of the veterinary team and specialists, Jackie's condition continued to worsen, leading to her passing early Monday morning. The center had been providing her with oxygen therapy, supportive treatment, and constant monitoring in the intensive care unit. Jackie's condition had been unstable, with her packed cell volume dropping to critically low levels.
Throughout her time at the Ojai Raptor Center, Jackie underwent extensive diagnostic testing to determine the cause of her illness. Despite the collaborative efforts of nine veterinarians and wildlife agencies, her condition did not improve. The center announced that Jackie's remains have been transferred to the California Department of Fish and Wildlife for further evaluation. Jackie gained international fame through the Big Bear Eagle Nest Cam, where viewers followed her life with her mate, Shadow, and their eaglets.
