Beyoncé Faces Copyright Infringement Lawsuit Over 'Alien Superstar' Sample
Beyoncé is facing a legal battle over an alleged unauthorized sample in her popular song "Alien Superstar." A company named Hirose Enterprise and producer Shuji Hirose have filed a lawsuit against Beyoncé and several music companies for copyright infringement. Hirose claims ownership of the song "Moonraker" by John Holiday, alleging that Beyoncé used a spoken-word introduction from this song in "Alien Superstar," featured on her 2022 album "Renaissance."
The lawsuit states that Beyoncé and her team did not obtain a license for the sample before the song's release. Although they did secure one from John Holiday after the album was out, Hirose argues that Holiday had already transferred his rights to the song years ago. Despite notifying Beyoncé's company of the infringement, Hirose claims that Beyoncé has continued to profit from the song. The company is seeking an injunction to prevent Beyoncé from further profiting from their work and is also seeking unspecified damages.
