Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty to Provide Updates on Investigations into Federal Agent Shootings

Hennepin County Attorney Mary Moriarty is set to reveal new information on Monday regarding the investigations into three shootings by federal agents during Operation Metro Surge. This announcement follows a lawsuit filed by Moriarty, Attorney General Keith Ellison, and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension against the Department of Justice to obtain evidence related to the shootings that resulted in the deaths of Renee Good and Alex Pretti, as well as the injury of Julio Sosa-Celis.

Despite the efforts of state and local investigators, federal authorities have refused to cooperate in all three cases, which has been described as a departure from standard practices. The lack of collaboration has hindered the progress of building criminal cases in the deaths of Pretti and Good, as highlighted by Moriarty.

One exception to the lack of cooperation was the case of Christian Castro, a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer charged with injuring Sosa-Celis. The charges were possible because BCA investigators were able to gather evidence and conduct interviews independently, demonstrating the importance of timely and thorough investigation.

Moriarty and Ellison will provide further details on the ongoing investigations during a news conference scheduled for 11 a.m. Stay tuned for updates on this developing story.
