Vice President JD Vance Considers Leasing Rural Retreat in Middleburg, Virginia

Vice President JD Vance and his family are considering leasing a rural property in Middleburg, Virginia, to have a retreat from their official duties in Washington, D.C. Middleburg is a small town in Loudoun County, located about 45 miles from the nation's capital. The details of the property and its purpose have not been publicly disclosed.

The decision to search for a new home comes as second lady Usha Vance is expecting her fourth child, a baby boy, later this month. This will be the first time a second lady gives birth while her husband serves in the White House since 1870. If the plan moves forward, the Secret Service will need to implement security measures at the rural property to ensure the vice president's safety during his term.

The Vances currently reside at the Number One Observatory Circle on the U.S. Naval Observatory grounds in Washington, D.C. Before becoming vice president, Vance owned a family home in Alexandria, Virginia, and later sold it when he moved to Observatory Circle. Additionally, the Vance family owns a historic five-bedroom house in Cincinnati, Ohio, which is mostly unoccupied. They purchased the home in 2018, before Vance entered U.S. politics, following the success of his memoir "Hillbilly Elegy: A Memoir of a Family and Culture in Crisis."
