Enhancing Luxury at Holm House: Proposed Sauna, Hot Tub, and Wellness Area

Holm House, a renowned historic building in Penarth, is considering adding a sauna, hot tub, and other amenities to enhance its offerings. The Vale of Glamorgan Council is currently reviewing plans for the installation of external ice baths, a sauna, hot tub, and changing rooms at Holm House. The boutique hotel has hosted celebrities like Harry Styles, Daniel Craig, Tyson Fury, and David Hasselhof in the past. Following its closure in 2024 due to the impact of Covid and rising living costs, Holm House reopened in 2025 with the popular Silures restaurant now operating on the premises, transforming it into a luxury retreat.

The proposed development, to be managed by Hedd Spa, aims to enhance the overall appeal and leisure options of Holm House, ensuring its sustainability. The outdoor wellness area will be designated as a quiet zone, with strict guidelines in place to maintain a peaceful environment. The maximum occupancy for the outdoor wellness area is set at six users at a time, with operating hours from 09:00 to 20:00 on weekdays and 10:00 to 18:00 on Sundays and bank holidays. The design of the development is focused on combining visual appeal with functionality to complement Holm House's reputation as a high-quality hospitality and leisure destination.

If approved, the development will be situated in the hotel's rear courtyard, offering guests a tranquil space to relax and unwind. However, the reopening of Holm House sparked controversy when the new restaurant celebrated receiving an alcohol license before the local council had made a decision on their application. This led to concerns from nearby residents regarding potential noise disturbances and anti-social behavior. Daf Andrews, one of the restaurant's directors, issued an apology for the premature social media post, clarifying that it was made in anticipation of receiving the license and not intended to mislead.

A decision on the proposed development is expected to be reached by August 28, 2026. Holm House's potential expansion with the addition of a sauna, hot tub, and outdoor wellness area reflects its commitment to providing guests with a luxurious and relaxing experience. The planned amenities are designed to enhance the overall appeal of the historic building and contribute to its continued success as a premier destination in Penarth.
