Former Florida Gubernatorial Candidate Andrew Gillum Arrested on Drug Charges: Latest Updates
Andrew Gillum, the former politician who narrowly lost the 2018 Florida governor's race to Ron DeSantis, was recently arrested in Alabama on drug-related charges. He was apprehended by authorities in Daphne, AL, and taken to the Baldwin County jail for possession of dangerous drugs, drug paraphernalia, and marijuana. The circumstances leading to his arrest have not been disclosed by the Daphne PD.
In 2020, Gillum and another individual were found in a disoriented state in a room at the Mondrian Hotel in South Beach, Florida. Paramedics were called to the scene, and police body cam footage revealed prescription pill bottles and small bags of methamphetamine in the room. Despite the discovery, neither Gillum nor the other person were formally charged due to insufficient evidence linking them directly to the drugs.
During the 2018 Florida governor's race, Gillum emerged as the Democratic primary winner and faced off against Republican candidate Ron DeSantis. DeSantis ultimately secured victory in the general election by a narrow margin of approximately 3,000 votes. Prior to his gubernatorial bid, Gillum served as the mayor of Tallahassee from 2014 to 2018.
