Tragic Lightning Strike on Fort Myers Beach: Fatalities and Injuries Reported

A fatal lightning strike occurred on Fort Myers Beach, with the Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District responding to the incident. Chief Scott Wirth confirmed that three individuals were injured, with one person tragically losing their life in the lightning strike. Emergency crews are currently on the scene of the incident, which took place on the 6600 block of Estero.

Upon arrival at the scene, emergency responders found one person unresponsive and two others requiring transportation for their injuries. Despite efforts to revive the individual with CPR and an AED, the injuries sustained were too severe. The fire district has advised the public to avoid the area until it is deemed safe, emphasizing the importance of being aware of weather conditions and seeking shelter during thunderstorms.

The Lee County Sheriff's Office also provided a statement regarding the incident, indicating that four individuals were involved in the lightning strike, with at least three of them being taken to local hospitals for medical evaluation.
