Madonna and Lola Leon's Emotional Collaboration on 'The Test' from Confessions II

Madonna and her daughter, Lola Leon, recently shared their experience collaborating on the song "The Test" from the album Confessions II. The song, written by Madonna and Leon, was produced by Stuart Price with additional production from Arca. During an interview with Bob the Drag Queen on "iHeartRadio and TikTok LIVE Premiere With Madonna," the mother-daughter duo discussed the emotional process of creating the track.

Leon revealed that the idea to collaborate on "The Test" was hers, as a way to address unspoken emotions and tensions in their relationship through art. Madonna described the songwriting process as a vulnerable and magical moment for both of them. The song reflects on the impact of Madonna's fame on Leon, who was just 9 years old when the Confessions on a Dance Floor era began in 2005.

Before recording "The Test," Leon had a dream about her maternal grandmother, which left her reflecting on the unanswered questions about their relationship. Despite Madonna's intimidating presence, Leon felt comfortable approaching her mother about the collaboration. Leon, also known as Lolahol, released her debut single "Lock & Key" in 2022 and graduated from the University of Michigan in 2018.

Confessions II, Madonna's 15th studio album, features 16 tracks and collaborations with artists like Sabrina Carpenter, Feid, Martin Garrix, and Stromae. To preview the album, Madonna partnered with iHeartRadio and TikTok for an exclusive event, streaming the album one day before its official release. Fans worldwide had the opportunity to listen to the album through TikTok, Madonna's and iHeartRadio's channels, as well as on over 200 iHeartRadio stations across the U.S.
