Harry Styles' Wembley Residency: A Blend of Music, Football Anthems, and Iconic Covers

Harry Styles has been making waves with his residency shows at Wembley Stadium, where he is currently in the midst of a 12-night run, marking the longest single-artist residency in the venue's history. The dates began on June 12, and Styles has already played seven of the 12 shows, treating fans to hits like 'Aperture', 'As It Was', 'Watermelon Sugar', and 'Music for a Sushi Restaurant'. During each performance, Styles has been blending Underworld's 'Born Slippy' with the iconic football anthem 'Three Lions' by Baddiel, Skinner & Lightning Seeds, fittingly coinciding with the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

Footage from the gigs showing Styles leading the crowd in singing along to the chorus of 'Three Lions' caught the attention of comedian and author David Baddiel, who originally penned the song. Baddiel shared the cover online, giving it his approval and humorously offering to waive the royalties for Harry Styles. In addition to his renditions of 'Three Lions' and 'Underworld', Styles has been incorporating snippets of songs like Talking Heads' 'This Must Be The Place', Happy Mondays' 'Step On', and Gorillaz's 'Clint Eastwood' into his sets.

At one of his shows, Styles paid tribute to the late David Hockney and reminisced about his time in One Direction. Amid the UK's recent heatwave, Wembley Stadium implemented a rule change for the shows. Styles will continue his residency with performances on Wednesday, July 1, and Friday, July 3, with doors opening at 5pm and the singer expected to take the stage at 8.15pm.

The iconic 'Three Lions' song, created by Baddiel, Skinner & Lightning Seeds, recently celebrated its 30th anniversary with a re-release as England entered another World Cup. The track was originally written in honor of England hosting the Euro 96 tournament and holds the record for being the only song to top the UK charts four times with the same artist. As England progresses in the 2026 World Cup, having already faced Croatia, Ghana, and Panama, they are set to play against DR Congo on Wednesday, July 1, at 5pm BST.
