Tragic Moped Accident Claims Life of 13-Year-Old in Queens

A tragic incident occurred in Queens where a 13-year-old boy lost his life while riding on the back of a moped. The fatal accident happened when his friend, also 13, swerved to avoid an open car door and collided with a moving truck. The moped driver tried to avoid the door opened by a parked vehicle on 162nd St. near 45th Ave. in Flushing, causing him to lose control and crash into the truck traveling in the same direction.
The impact of the crash caused the moped passenger to fall off and hit the rear wheel of the truck. Both teens were rushed to New York-Presbyterian Hospital Queens, but unfortunately, the boy riding on the back of the moped succumbed to his injuries. The identity of the deceased boy has not been disclosed, while the moped driver is expected to make a recovery.
Fortunately, the truck driver and the driver of the parked vehicle were unharmed in the incident and cooperated with authorities at the scene. As the investigation into the crash continues, no charges have been filed yet. This tragic event serves as a reminder of the importance of road safety and the need for caution while operating any vehicle.
