Malaysia Extends Agreement with Ocean Infinity to Continue Search for Missing MH370

Malaysia has announced a one-year extension of its agreement with Ocean Infinity, a deep-sea exploration company, to continue the search for the missing Malaysia Airlines flight MH370. The Boeing 777 aircraft disappeared in 2014 while en route from Kuala Lumpur to Beijing, sparking one of the most perplexing aviation mysteries in history. Despite multiple search efforts in the southern Indian Ocean, the wreckage has not been found.

Ocean Infinity had previously conducted searches for the plane until 2018. Last year, a new deal was signed with Malaysia to resume the search in a designated area of 15,000 sq km, with payment contingent on finding the wreckage. The extension of the agreement covers the period from July 1 of this year to June 30, 2027, according to Malaysia's Transport Minister Anthony Loke.

Loke emphasized that the decision to extend the search contract reflects the government's ongoing commitment to providing closure for the families of the passengers on board flight MH370. The extension will allow Ocean Infinity to complete the search of the remaining area of 7,428.54 sq km. Additionally, the extension takes into consideration Ocean Infinity's other commercial obligations, which will require the temporary redeployment of search assets to another location between November 2026 and April 2027.
