Iran and Qatar Agree to Release $6 Billion of Iranian Assets for Humanitarian Purchases

Iran and Qatar have reached an agreement to release $6 billion of Iranian assets held in Qatar, out of a total of $12 billion, as announced by Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. The remaining $6 billion is also expected to be returned to Iran in due course. The move comes after discussions between the United States, Qatar, and Iran to facilitate the use of frozen Iranian funds for purchasing humanitarian goods. Initially, Iran may access the $6 billion held in Qatar for this purpose.
