Yellowstone National Park Bison Incident: Safety Reminder for Visitors

A 12-year-old visitor to Yellowstone National Park was injured by a bison near Mud Volcano, just north of Fishing Bridge, on June 26, 2026. The incident occurred at around 9:15 a.m., and the injured individual was taken to a nearby hospital. Park officials have not disclosed the gender of the 12-year-old and are currently investigating the incident. It serves as a reminder for visitors to maintain a safe distance of at least 25 yards from large animals like bison, elk, bighorn sheep, deer, moose, and coyotes, and at least 100 yards from bears, wolves, and cougars. Bison, in particular, have caused more injuries to people in Yellowstone than any other animal due to their unpredictable nature, speed, and defensive behavior.
