From a Routine Visit to a Record-Breaking Sale: The Unforgettable Journey of a Young Collector at DNA Cards and Collectibles

A routine visit to a card shop turned into a memorable experience for a young collector in Arizona. Mason Deane, a 9-year-old baseball card enthusiast, enjoys the tradition of opening packs with his dad every month. They frequent DNA Cards and Collectibles in search of new cards, particularly those featuring players they admire.

Shop owner Adam Sidoti offers a wide variety of collectibles for all types of collectors, including sports cards, Pokémon, Star Wars, Disney, Marvel, and more. Mason and his father, Bradley, have turned card collecting into a bonding activity, referring to it as their trading business.

During a visit in April, Mason's luck led him to a rare find in a box of Topps Chrome Black baseball cards: a one-of-one redemption card for a signed rookie card of Munetaka Murakami. The Deane family decided to auction the card, which eventually sold for nearly $75,000, marking a significant moment for the young collector.

The sale of the card could potentially be the largest in the history of the card shop, according to Sidoti. Mason was surprised by the outcome and already had plans for the money, including buying more cards and V-Bucks. However, his father saw an opportunity to invest in Mason's future by putting the money towards his college fund.

Despite the financial gain, the Deane family values the experience and memories created through the card collecting journey. Mason considers the Murakami card as one of the best he has ever obtained, while Bradley views the entire event as a unique and exciting occurrence.
