Sentencing of Lindy Jones and Guy Rivera in NYPD Detective Jonathan Diller Shooting Case

The partner of the criminal who fatally shot NYPD Detective Jonathan Diller was sentenced to five years in prison. Lindy Jones, 43, pleaded guilty to a gun-related felony charge in connection with the shooting incident that took place on March 25, 2024. Jones was driving a Kia Soul when Diller and his colleagues approached the suspicious vehicle in Far Rockaway, leading to the tragic shooting by Guy Rivera.

During the confrontation, Diller was fatally wounded, and Rivera and Jones were apprehended. A loaded 9 mm handgun was discovered in the car's glove compartment, resulting in Jones facing multiple felony gun possession charges. Despite his lawyer's plea for a shorter sentence, Jones was sentenced to five years in prison by Queens Supreme Court Justice Michael Yavinsky.

Rivera, the perpetrator of the shooting, was acquitted of the top murder charge but found guilty of manslaughter, attempted murder of NYPD Sgt. Sasha Rosen, and weapons possession. He received a sentence of 115 years to life in prison. In court, Stephanie Diller, the widow of the slain officer, emotionally addressed the killer, expressing the impact of his actions on her family and condemning his actions.

The courtroom was filled with about three dozen NYPD officers, showing support for Diller's family during the sentencing.
