Breakthrough Announcement in Unsolved Zajko Murder Case: Latest Updates and Developments
Authorities are set to make a significant announcement regarding the unsolved murder case of Richard and Rita Zajko in Pennsylvania. The Zajkos, aged 72 and 69, were discovered deceased in their home in Chester Heights following a wellness check. Their deaths were determined to be homicides by the Delaware County medical examiner. The couple was killed on New Year's Eve in 2022, as per Pennsylvania State Police. Investigators have ruled out the possibility of their deaths being a random act of violence. Delaware County District Attorney Tanner Rouse will hold a press conference at 1 p.m. to provide an update on the case, which can be viewed live on CBS News Philadelphia or online.
The Zajkos' deaths are part of a series of six deaths linked to a group known as the Zizians in Pennsylvania, California, and Vermont. Michelle Zajko, the couple's daughter, was questioned but not charged in connection with her parents' deaths. In April 2025, she released a 20-page handwritten letter through her attorney, asserting her innocence in her parents' murder. Authorities allege that Michelle Zajko provided the firearm used in the fatal shooting of U.S. Border Patrol Agent David Maland in Vermont in January 2025.
This is an ongoing investigation, and further updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
