A Walk on the Moon: Off-Broadway Musical Delight

Previews have begun for the Off-Broadway debut of the new musical A Walk on the Moon, based on the 1999 film of the same name. The show is currently playing at The Laura Pels Theatre at the Harold and Miriam Steinberg Center for Theatre until August 22. Directed by Tony Award nominee Sheryl Kaller, the musical features a book and additional lyrics by original screenwriter Pamela Gray, and music and lyrics by AnnMarie Milazzo. Josh Prince handles the choreography.
The cast of the production includes Talia Suskauer as Pearl, Max Chernin as Marty, Sam Gravitte as Walker, Andréa Burns as Lillian, Sophie Pollono as Alison, and Oscar Williams as Ross. Other cast members include Andrew Faria, David R. Gordon, Megan Kane, Caroline Pernick, Becca Suskauer, Michael Tacconi, and alternates Leo Caravano and Reid Gardner Clarke. Tovah Feldshuh, known for her work on stage and screen, makes a recorded appearance in the musical.
Set in the summer of 1969, A Walk on the Moon tells the story of Pearl Kantrowitz, a Brooklyn mother and housewife, as she embarks on her annual trip to a Catskills bungalow colony. The show explores Pearl's awakening to a new life as the world around her undergoes significant changes. The original film starred Diane Lane and Viggo Mortensen.
The Off-Broadway production boasts sets and projections by Tal Yarden, costumes by Ricky Lurie, lighting by Robert Wierzel, and sound by Justin Stasiw. The music direction is by Jillian Zack, with music supervision and arrangements by Andy Einhorn. The creative team also includes associate director Rosie Glen-Lambert, associate choreographer Ali Solomon, and various associate designers. Live Wire Theatrical serves as general managers, and Roy Gabay is the executive producer.
