Building Mini-Pitches: Tyler Adams' Mission to Expand Soccer Access in Underserved Communities

Soccer player Tyler Adams is making a difference in the sport by building mini-pitches across the U.S. These pitches are made of blue hard-court and are about the size of a basketball court, featuring permanent metal goals. Adams believes that providing access to these mini-pitches can positively impact children, especially in areas with limited recreational facilities.

Growing up in New York, Adams understands the importance of having easy access to soccer fields. In Europe, where he currently plays, soccer pitches are more readily available compared to the U.S. The U.S. Soccer Foundation aims to install 1,000 mini-pitches in underserved areas by 2026 to address the lack of recreational facilities in predominantly Black and Hispanic communities.

Studies have shown that the installation of mini-pitches leads to increased community activity and a sense of safety. Adams emphasizes the benefits of soccer, such as creating memories, experiencing different cultures, and building friendships. The mini-pitches have had a positive impact on children like Valentino from Detroit, who now have a space to practice and play soccer.

Adams is also involved with Black Star Soccer, a platform focused on growing soccer in underserved communities. He hopes that the addition of mini-pitches will help improve diversity in the sport and inspire the next generation of players. Adams believes that the diversity within the U.S. men's national team reflects the country's multicultural background and hopes to see this diversity reflected in soccer matches nationwide.

By building mini-pitches and promoting the sport in underserved communities, Tyler Adams is working to expand and diversify soccer in the U.S. His efforts aim to provide more opportunities for children to play the game they love and create a more inclusive soccer community.
