Miraculous Cliffside Rescue at Dead Man's Point: A Tale of Heroism and Collaboration

Rescue crews sprang into action on Friday night to save a stranded hiker at Dead Man’s Point in Land’s End, Presidio. The foggy conditions made air rescue unsafe, prompting a collaborative effort from the Coast Guard, San Francisco Police Department drone unit, United States Park Police, and the San Francisco Fire Department. The hiker was perched on a cliff, and firefighters faced challenges such as heavy brush and unstable terrain during the rescue mission. Eventually, the victim was guided to slide down the cliff face and reach the shoreline where rescue swimmers assisted in getting them to safety in a SFFD rescue boat.
After a grueling seven-hour operation, the victim was successfully transported to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries. One of the rescue swimmers also sustained non-life-threatening injuries but is expected to recover fully. The collaborative efforts of the rescue teams ensured a successful outcome despite the challenging conditions.
