Joyin Recalls Sloosh Dive Sticks Due to Impalement Hazard: Important Safety Information for Consumers
A popular pool toy set has been recalled due to safety concerns that a child could be impaled by one of the items. Joyin has issued a recall for approximately 254,000 Sloosh dive sticks that exceed the compress limit, posing an impalement hazard. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission stated that children could sustain serious piercing injuries if they fall or land on the dive sticks in shallow water. Additionally, facial and eye injuries are possible when children swim underwater to retrieve the sticks.
The recall specifically applies to dive sticks included in packages of Sloosh water toys with the model number 40041. Each package contains 30 pieces, including five cylinder-shaped dive sticks made of hard plastic. Other items in the package are not affected by the recall. Dive sticks were commonly used in pools for entertainment and teaching swimming skills but were banned in 2001 due to a rise in injuries. Dive toys must now rest at an angle greater than 45 degrees to comply with regulations, while dive rings remain permissible.
Consumers are advised to discontinue the use of the dive sticks immediately and contact Joyin for replacements that adhere to federal regulations. It is crucial to prioritize safety when using pool toys to prevent accidents and injuries.
