A man in San Francisco was found guilty by a jury for raping a woman who mistakenly entered his car, thinking it was her Uber ride. Yucel Eryilmaz, 44, was convicted of rape of an unconscious person and assault with intent to commit rape. The incident occurred after the victim and her sister left a club in the Mission District around 2 a.m. and got into Eryilmaz's car by mistake. The victim fell asleep in the back seat while Eryilmaz drove them to their destination. Eryilmaz then attempted to assault the victim's sister before speeding away with the victim still in the car. The victim woke up three hours later to find Eryilmaz raping her in the back seat. She managed to contact her sister for help and fled the scene.
Eryilmaz was captured on surveillance footage parking his car near his apartment building and assaulting the victim in the back seat. The victim bravely testified about the traumatic experience during the trial, highlighting the different ways people respond to trauma. Eryilmaz is scheduled to be sentenced on June 18 for his crimes.
