UCLA Assault Suspect Pleads Not Guilty: Campus Safety Measures and Legal Proceedings
A man accused of assaulting five women on the UCLA campus has pleaded not guilty to severe assault and attempted kidnapping charges. The suspect, Olumuyiwa Akindahunsi, allegedly targeted four UCLA students at various campus residential facilities. Evidence recovered at the scene included zip ties, duct tape, and paracord rope. The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office requested that Akindahunsi be held without bail.
The suspect, who is not affiliated with UCLA and may be experiencing homelessness, allegedly committed the attacks with an unknown motive. It is unclear how he gained access to restricted residential facilities on campus. The incidents occurred over a span of several days, with the suspect being arrested near Parking Structure 8 after a witness intervened and pursued him.
UCLA Police Chief Craig Valenzuela commended the officers for their quick response and arrest of the suspect. The safety and security of the campus community remain a top priority for the university. District Attorney Nathan Hochman emphasized the severity of the crimes and the need to hold the attacker accountable.
Akindahunsi entered a plea of not guilty in court and will remain in custody without bail as legal proceedings continue.
