ICE Officer Christian J. Castro Faces Bail Hearing in Texas and Extradition to Minnesota

A U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement officer, Christian J. Castro, faced a bail hearing in Cameron County, Texas, where his bail was set at $200,000. Castro is accused of falsely reporting a crime and four counts of assault with a dangerous weapon in Minnesota. The bail amount set in Cameron County matches that set by a judge in Minnesota, where Castro is facing extradition.
During the hearing, Castro was informed of his charges in Cameron County and the pending charges in Minnesota. If he posts bail, he will be released from custody in Cameron County but will have to appear in court in Minnesota as required. If he does not post bond, Minnesota will need to obtain a governor's warrant for his extradition within 90 days, or Cameron County will release him.
Castro was arrested in Harlingen, Texas, on May 29, following charges in Minneapolis related to a non-fatal shooting on Jan. 14. Despite being a resident of the Rio Grande Valley and not a fugitive from Minnesota, Castro is facing legal proceedings due to his alleged involvement in the shooting incident.
