Ederson's Story: A Tale of Family Separation at the U.S.-Mexico Border

In 2018, Ederson Galicia Alva, a 3-year-old boy, was separated from his mother at the U.S.-Mexico border due to the family separation policy implemented during the first Trump administration. They were reunited after legal intervention but were separated again in June of the following year and deported to Guatemala, despite legal safeguards meant to prevent such separations. After spending nearly a year in Guatemala, Ederson's family was permitted to return to Florida last week, following a federal judge's ruling that the government's actions were unlawful.
